How Does Chiropractic Work?
Chiropractic offers a non-invasive natural method of healing through spinal manipulation.
Your spine is made up of a series of movable bones, called vertebrae. These bones start at the base of your skull and go down where they end between your hips. Inside this column of vertebrae is the spinal cord, which is an extension of the brain. It is from the spinal cord that nerves originate and extend into all parts of your body.
When a subluxation happens, it simply means that one or more of your vertebrae has shifted and become misaligned and is putting pressure on a nerve. It’s this pressure that can cause symptoms such:
- Headaches
- Dizzines
- Bursitis/shoulder pain
- Neck pain or stiffness
- Back pain
- Tennis elbow
- Numbness or tingling in limbs
- Muscle spasms
- Joint pain
- Wrist pain
- Constipation/diarrhea
- Arthritis
How can this happen? Misalignment can occur from a car accident resulting in whiplash, or tripping and falling down. Overexerting yourself, stress and poor posture can also have effects on your spinal alignment. Sports injuries are also a big contributor to spinal misalignment.
After a consultation and examination by the doctor, he will be able to determine if your problems can be resolved with chiropractic care. If this is the case, the doctor will correct the subluxation (misalignment) by applying pressure to the spine. This results in the vertebrae realigning to its correct position and relieving the pressure on the affected nerve, reducing pain and inflammation.
